SURFING IN SAN PANCHO MEXICO

It is possible to catch point breaks off the headland at either end of the beach and there is a beach break in front of the lagoon closest to town, but it is very important to always remember the strong undertow.

Check with San Pancho’s Surf Shop on Calle America Latina as to where and when it is safe to surf locally.

Alternatively, head to neighboring Sayulita for it’s friendlier surf breaks. There are two surf spots in Sayulita; a right (longboard) break in front of the village and a left (faster) break in front of the campground. Surfboard rentals can be found at a variety of locations on the beach.

If you are learning to surf, then the waves of Sayulita are excellent because they are not too big, fast, or heavy. Also, beginners looking for surfing lessons should check with San Pancho’s Surf Shop.

For the more experienced surfer, the winter months can offer some exciting surf in Sayulita, or alternatively visit the breaks further south along the Bahia de Banderas coast at Burros, La Launcha, El Faro, and Restaurants; and to the north in Chacala, Santa Cruz, and San Blas.
